On Thinking of Mothers

“Mama, I’ve got something to tell you…” And mama is listening.

Some cars wear it on their plate. For years, little girls walked with old men on German and Austrian traffic signs. Until somebody realised that this was kind of creepy. And now pictogram mothers show their pictogram children where to walk and how to avoid dangers.

German is weird anyway because even screws have mothers (nuts). Schrauben und Muttern, almost like nuts and bolts.

But let’s return to recognisable mothers.
